AUSTIN, Texas – Amber Anderson Mostyn, chair of Annie’s List, released the following statement today following the tragic death of the group’s executive director, Grace Garcia, earlier this week in a fatal car accident in Waxahachie.
“We continue to grieve the passing of Grace Garcia and send our most sincere condolences to her family. A private funeral service will be held this weekend in her hometown of San Antonio. Plans are also underway for two larger memorial services to honor Grace later this month, one in Austin and another in Washington, D.C.
Piper Nelson, deputy director of Annie’s List who was in the car with Grace at the time of the accident, is expected to be released from the hospital over the weekend and to return to Austin next week. Our thoughts and prayers are with her and her family as she continues to recover.
Though we are heavy hearted, we know how vital it is for the critically important work of Annie’s List to continue as we transition to the next chapter for the organization.
To that end, I am pleased to announce that Patsy Woods Martin has been appointed by the board of directors to serve as interim executive director of Annie’s List, effective immediately.
Patsy has the vision and management skills needed to oversee the continuation of our important work on behalf of all Texans. In conjunction with the board of directors, she will also help direct the search for a new executive director who will provide long-term leadership for Annie’s List.”
