El Paso Blog Uncovers Disturbing Pattern of Hector Enriquez Supporting Republicans Like Rick Perry and George W. Bush

When Confronted About Supporting Rick Perry's Re-Election Campaign, Enriquez Behaves Like a Republican and Launches Social Media Blitz about Divisive Wedge Issues

(El Paso) - Hector Enriquez is running as a Democrat for the State House in El Paso’s district 75, an open seat. He is facing Annie's List endorsed candidate Mary Gonzalez in the primary election on May 29. Documents published yesterday by Jaime Abeytia with the Lion Star Blog in El Paso cast serious doubt on Enriquez’s true political beliefs and whether he can be trusted to represent Democratic values if he were elected.

More specifically, public records point to a disturbing pattern of behavior by Mr. Enriquez--supporting Republican extremists like Perry. Right-wing organizations closely aligned with Perry have in turn supported Enriquez. (The attached picture with Hector Enriquez and George W. Bush was distributed by Mr. Enriquez as part of his campaign literature.)

BREAKING: April 30, 2012- A Federal District Judge granted a temporary injunction in the State of Texas' decision to exclude Planned Parenthood from the Women's Health Program. This is a major victory for Planned Parenthood, as the ruling asserts that the state cannot exclude certain providers from this program that serves over 130,000 low-income women in Texas. Planned Parenthood serves over 40% of the women in this program. We commend Judge Lee Yeakel on this ruling. For more information on this story, click here.

RICK PERRY’S “PLEDGE” IS AN ADMISSION THAT REPUBLICANS PLAN ON CUTTING BILLIONS MORE FROM TEXAS PUBLIC SCHOOL CLASSROOMS

Perry’s Call for More Budget Transparency Tantamount to Enron Calling for More Corporate Accountability

(Austin, TX) - Today’s announcement by Rick Perry that he will be asking candidates to sign a pledge to continue his failed financial practices next Legislative Session makes it clear that he is not done hurting Texas women, children and seniors.

The failed Business Margins Tax has left us with an approximately $10 billion deficit in each of the last three bienniums. Rick Perry and Republican legislators have hidden that “structural deficit” with accounting tricks that amount to diversions and deceptions for years now instead of solving the problem.

A failure to even consider touching the Rainy Day Fund or to rework his failed business tax is tantamount to admitting that he plans on cutting at least another $10 billion from our classrooms and for health care for our most vulnerable citizens--including basic health care for poor women. The State of Texas, for the first time in 50 years, failed to meet even the demands of enrollment growth in public education this year, and we are dangerously close to dooming the workforce of tomorrow.

Rick Perry’s “pledge” to continue his failed financial practices confirm that Republicans plan on ignoring the priorities of Texas families and hurting them even further with at least an additional $10 billion in cuts to public schools and basic health care for women and seniors,” said Mitra Salasel, a spokeswoman for Annie’s List.

In a preview to the Texas Tribune, Perry referred to the budget process as a “game.” That alone is telling--considering that Rick Perry and Republican legislators didn’t hesitate to use Enron-style accounting tricks such as deferring Medicaid payments, using federal stimulus money in 2009 and overestimating future revenues to cover their tracks in the most recent budgets.

It is shameful that Rick Perry thinks that the state budget is some sort of a ‘game’ when millions of Texans’ futures depend on the decisions made in Austin. Texans can and must do better than this,” said Salasel.

More and More Texans Pushing Back Against Republican Anti-Woman Policies
After enduring months of anti-woman rhetoric and dangerous new policies that threaten the most basic rights of women , more and more Texans are noticing that something isn't right.

Please take a moment to watch this video from our allied organization, The Lone Star Project, that outlines what happens when women are denied access to basic healthcare in Texas. The actions of the right-wing super majority in the Legislature in 2011, at the behest of Governor Perry, will cost at least 400,000 Texas women access to the most basic of healthcare services.

Because of the integral role women play in caring for their families, this war on Texas women will also directly impact thousands of entire families across the state. These egregious policies are sending the message loud and clear that the time to elect more progressive women to the Legislature is now. Please share this video with your friends and family, and take a moment to learn about our slate of qualified women candidates who are ready to fight to undo this damage to women's health in 2013 with your support.

Update: Senator Wendy Davis on Rachel Maddow Discussing Firebombing

Prepared Statement from Senator Davis on Firebombing

"First, I'm thankful no one was hurt today and I'm grateful for the quick thinking of one of my team members who minimized the damage and ensured that no one was harmed in this violent senseless attack. As these violent incidents happen across the country, it should remind us of the importance of the democratic process and remind us to keep a sense of civility even as we disagree - acts of violence are never a solution and have no place in our society. While we don't know the motive today, we are in touch with police and fire investigators and this remains an ongoing investigation that includes Fort Worth Police/Fort Worth Fire/and Texas Department of Public Safety. Let me say this, Texas faces enormous challenges.  We can and should work together to resolve these issues through civil, non-violent discourse. I will continue to stand up for the things we all believe in and hold important, such as adequate public education funding, job creation, and the protection of women's healthcare."

Annie's List Statement on Rick Perry's Decision to Use State Funds For Women's Health Program While Still Exluding Planned Parenthood

AUSTIN, TX- Today's announcement by Governor Rick Perry that he would save the Women's Health Program was even less sincere than Rush Limbaugh's recent apology for calling Georgetown Law student Sandra Fluke a "slut".

By still insisting on excluding Planned Parenthood for purely ideological reasons, they are denying access to a medical provider for over 40% of the women served by the Women's Health Program. Last session Republicans voted repeatedly to slash funding for family planning, women's health care, nursing homes and public education.

But now that they feel the white hot rage from women nationwide for their inflammatory rhetoric and invasive decisions, they are back-pedaling with faux solutions.

The bottom line is that Rick Perry and his fellow Republicans have once again demonstrated that they are willing to put the lives of thousands of Texas women at risk because they don't like the sign hanging in front of the doctor's office. We see through this act of theirs, and think Texas women voters will as well come November.
