While San Antonio is now my home, I grew up in a house nestled along the Rio Grande River in Laredo, Texas. In our colonia, we didn’t have access to reliable transportation, parks, or even solid ground. When the river flooded, so did our homes. We didn’t have access to many of the things that so many take for granted.

I am a first-generation American; I’m the daughter of Maria and Andres. My mother was and continues to work in elderly care, as a nurse assistant. Growing up, my father worked several jobs, including janitorial services, to help us get by. Their example of grit enabled me to work hard in school, and eventually earn a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and a Masters degree in Political Science. I graduated from those institutions of higher education, with highest honors (summa cum laude), which for a girl like me, was a dream come true.

Our state’s future rests on the equity of the opportunity we afford all Texans. As someone who grew up without access to the basic necessities of the average Texan, I’ve committed my life to ensuring the next generation doesn’t go without the most critical element to our state’s success – public education.

I’m ready to bring my experience fighting for San Antonio’s young children to the halls of The Capitol. I’m ready to fight for policies that serve all Texans. From healthcare, to transportation, to voting rights; we need public servants willing to think through solutions – not politicians interested in demonizing the less fortunate amongst us.

As Carlos and I raise our young children, Grace (4) and Carlitos (2), we constantly talk about the Texas they deserve. I’m in this race to fight for the Texas we all deserve. Biography courtesy of codafortexas.com.
