Election Information: The replacement process will take place at the House District 146 Executive Committee Meeting on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at 10 AM. The event is open to the public, however only precinct chairs that reside in the district are allowed to nominate. Their nominee will run unopposed in the General Election on November 8. Erica Lee Carter, Democrat, was elected in 2012 to serve as Trustee for Precinct 1 on the Harris County Board of Education. Erica believes all children deserve a quality education. Prior to running for school board, Erica taught first grade in Houston ISD (HISD) where she witnessed firsthand the challenges schools face when trying to provide children educational opportunities. Since then, it has been her mission to help support schools in their quest to educate all children. Currently, Erica serves as one of the youngest elected officials in Harris County. During her tenure, she has chaired the Afterschool (CASE) and Communication Board committees where she sought to expand outreach to underserved communities for after school enrichment opportunities. She worked closely with the Head Start Policy Council to ensure children received the best early childhood education possible. In addition to the Harris County Board of Education, Erica has been sustaining member of the Harris County Democratic Party since 2010. She has held memberships with the Harris County Young Democrats, Houston Black America Democrats (HBAD), Harris County Young Stonewall Democrats, and the GLBT Caucus, River Oaks Democratic Women (ROADWomen), and the Harris County Tejano Democrats. She was a member of the 2010 Democratic Coordinated Campaign and has remained active in engaging the next generation in electoral politics. Erica has contributed to critical policy and political issues such as equality, women’s rights, and social justice. She has worked to build bridges and form coalitions through the Houston Area Urban League, LULAC, Community Voices for Public Education and other community groups.

Erica graduated with Honors from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She then completed her education at the Terry Sanford School of Public Policy at Duke University by earning a Master of Public Policy degree. Erica Lee Carter currently lives in Houston’s Riverside Terrace (House District 146) with her  husband, Dr. Roy L. Carter, Jr. and boy-girl infant twins, Roy, III and Ellison.
