Meet Annie’s List’s Fall Interns
September 28, 2017
Annie’s List is thrilled to welcome the next generation of public interest leaders to join us for the fall semester!
Our interns serve in each of our different departments – political, communications, development, and programs. They work together to help Annie’s List promote progressive women candidates in Texas while learning the in’s and-out’s of elections and the political process.
Without further ado, please allow us to introduce our fall 2017 interns!
Kristy Tijerina, Programs Intern
Kristy Tijerina is a senior at the University of Texas at Austin, where she is pursuing her bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies. A San Antonio native, she has a strong passion for her community and serving her city. Kristy is actively involved in numerous on-campus organizations, including: the Gateway Mentor program, Communication Council, and the Texas Lassos. Kristy is also the Director of Event Planning and Morale for Texas THON, which has helped her to discover her knack for event planning, outreach, and organization tactics. Upon graduation she will move to Houston as a corps member for Teach for America.
Katie Allison, Development Intern
Katie is a junior studying elementary education and pursuing a certificate in public policy at The University of Texas at Austin. While her immediate goal after college is to work as an elementary school teacher, her true passion lies in education policy. She previously interned for Emerging Scholars, a non-profit academic enrichment program for underserved students in the Washington D.C. area. During this internship, she had the privilege of assisting with math, English, and leadership classes. An active member on UT’s campus, she currently serves as the vice president and Senate Representative for the College of Education Council.
Allie Parry, Communications Intern
Allie is a senior at the University of Texas at Austin, pursuing a degree in government and sociology. Her passion for sociology and social issues helps influence her political goals, including empowering women to run for office. Before joining the Annie’s List team, Allie interned for Congressman Lloyd Doggett in both his Austin and Washington D.C. offices and served as a fellow with the Senator Kirk Watson Campaign Academy. On campus, Allie serves as the president of the Sociology Honors Society, the public relations officer for the Government Honors Society, a member of the Student Conduct Board, and as a mentor at the Travis County Juvenile Detention Facility.
Ari Tolany, Political Intern
Born and raised in Austin, Ari Tolany is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Texas at Austin, and hopes to pursue a career in human rights law. Her political interests include reproductive justice and the civic representation of women. Ari is proficient in English and Spanish, and is additionally studying Persian in hopes of becoming trilingual by graduation. She previously clerked for the State Bar of Texas and was a research assistant at the Human Abilities in Bilingual Language Acquisition. When not working, Ari enjoys hiking, dog-watching, and thrift store shopping. As part of her commitment to environmental justice, Ari has not purchased unused clothing since 2013.
Annie’s List interns have gone on to attend Campaign School, work on the campaigns of our endorsed candidates around the state, join the Annie’s List staff, and work in key positions in the Capitol.
