In Historic Election Year, Annie’s List Endorsed Candidates Flip Critical Seats
November 7, 2018

With a record number of women on the ballot, Annie’s List Candidates Pick Up Key Democratic Legislative and County Seats in Tarrant, Dallas, and Harris Counties
Austin, TX – Last night across Texas, Annie’s List candidates surged to important victories that will help direct the future trajectory of Texas government. Of the organization’s record-breaking 37 endorsements this cycle, Annie’s List candidates flipped a critical State Senate seat in Tarrant County and will account for eight new women in the Texas Legislature, seven of whom flipped formerly Republican Districts. In Harris and Tarrant Counties, four first-time candidates unseated Republican incumbents holding critical county-level positions.
“With the victories of our endorsed candidates, Annie’s List has proven that pro-choice Democratic women can run and win in Texas,” said Executive Director Royce Brooks. “We are not only changing the face of power in Texas, we are shifting the perception of what leadership looks like. Our Annie’s List candidates are the embodiment of that change.”
“This was a monumentally important election and thanks to the collective efforts of Annie’s List and like-minded candidates and organizations across the state, Texas is officially a competitive state for Democrats up and down the ballot,” said Political Director, Monica Gomez. “Our newly elected and re-elected officials will be critical in blocking wasteful legislation and getting Austin to focus on issues that impact all Texans.”
