(AUSTIN, TX)- Annie’s List, the statewide political organization that works to elect pro-choice, Democratic women to office in Texas, is proud to announce the PAC’s first endorsement of 2019: Coda Rayo-Garza for Texas House District 125.

“Annie’s List helped to elect a record number of women to the Texas House in last year’s midterms, and we are excited for Coda Rayo-Garza to join their ranks,” said Royce Brooks, Annie’s List Executive Director. “We are committed to electing more women like Coda, who will ensure we advance the conversation around school finance reform, affordable access to healthcare and equitable opportunities for all Texans.”

Coda Rayo-Garza, a first-generation American, was raised along the Rio Grande River in Laredo, Texas without access to basic infrastructure such as parks, reliable transportation and flood control. Her parents worked tirelessly to ensure the family was provided for and it was their selfless work ethic that led Coda to prioritize her education and ultimately pursue a career of progressive advocacy and service.

Her life and career have prepared her for this race, with experience working in the municipal government, education, nonprofit and advocacy spaces. She has dedicated her time to progressive programs and campaigns and leadership training that has provided the expertise to understand policy-making from multiple perspectives.

“Our state’s future rests on the equity of the opportunity we afford all Texans,” said Rayo-Garza. “As someone who grew up without access to the basic necessities of the average Texan, I’ve committed my life to ensuring the next generation doesn’t go without the most critical element to our state’s success–public education.”

“Coda is eager to bring her experience to the Capitol and Annie’s List is excited to support her campaign,” said Monica Gomez, Annie’s List Political Director. “She is uniquely qualified to successfully fight for policies that serve all Texans, and we look forward to electing another Democratic woman to the state legislature dedicated to creating lasting change.

Annie’s List supports our endorsed candidates through a combination of expert training, political advice and financial contributions. The organization joins Wendy Davis, MJ Hegar and Gina Ortiz Jones in endorsing Coda Rayo-Garza for House District 125.

Annie’s List works to achieve equity for women by changing the face of leadership in Texas. We recruit, train, support and elect progressive, pro-choice women who are dedicated to advancing the self-determination, health, safety and financial security of Texas women and their families. Since our founding in 2003, Annie’s List has trained thousands of women to run for office and won more than 100 races up and down the ballot and across the state.
