Texas families need champions of integrity, able to fully focus on education, other services

AUSTIN, TX – Today, Annie’s List Executive Director Patsy Woods Martin issued the following statement upon the revelation of yet another Texas politician investigated for corruption:

“Last night news broke that El Paso’s House District 75 candidate Chente Quintanilla is being sued and under AG investigation for voter fraud — this alone is serious and troubling. But, unfortunately, he’s not alone. Across the state in Ft. Bend (HD 27) incumbent Rep. Ron Reynolds faces a year in jail and has been barred from practicing law while he appeals his conviction.

In each of these races, voters have a clear choice:

  • in El Paso’s HD 75, the reelection of education champion Rep. Mary González or Chente Quintanilla who’s under suspicion for voter fraud and being bankrolled by anti-public ed PAC Texans for Education Reform;
  • in Ft. Bend’s HD 27, the election of long-time education advocate Angelique Bartholomew or that of Rep. Ron Reynolds who’s busy fighting his conviction and disbarment.

No matter where we call home, hard-working Texas families across the state are facing challenges and need leaders who are fighting for them — not legal battles of their own. Voters have a clear choice: candidates who are facing their day in court, or candidates who are champions for Texas families.”
