Below is a statement from Annie’s List Executive Director Royce Brooks in response to the Texas State Board of Education’s recent decision to remove Hillary Clinton from the state curriculum- a move that would save just 30 minutes from the overall curriculum.

“It’s no surprise that SBOE continues to put politics before students. To ignore Hillary Clinton’s accomplishment as the first woman to be nominated for president by a major political party, among other historic firsts, would be an incredible disservice to students and aspiring leaders across Texas. Two years after her historic presidential run, our nation is undergoing a cultural and political sea change: record numbers of women stepping up to run for political office in Texas and across the country, and the #MeToo movement is forcing a major reckoning on issues of gender equity.

We hope that the board reevaluates their decision ahead of their final vote in November so that students across the state continue to be inspired by the Hillary Clinton’s legacy.”
